A switch is a component of network hardware used to connect several
servers or network segments in a
LAN. Introducing a switch
makes sense for systems of at least three servers, and is recommended for
high-availability systems. According to requirements, the switches used by
Knipp possess 100 or 1,000
Mbit/s copper or fibre uplink
ports. The switches are administered exclusively by Knipp (managed switch)
and offer extensive control functions, convenient device management and
flexible scalability conforming to the customer's demands. Knipp uses
quality switches by HP only.
