Operating dedicated servers requires a solid grounding in the
administration of server systems. It could be that you decide in favour of
a dedicated server, but do not have enough resources or know-how available
for the server administration, or you are not able to delegate this to
your agency. In this situation, a managed server from Knipp is the right
choice for you.
Within the scope of our managed server offer, the server is administered
entirely by Knipp, in close consultation with you. Apart from the initial
server setup including basic installation and configuration, our
technicians install your own specialised programs and scripts as well as
third-party software if desired. We initiate restarts of main services
like web or mail servers at your request.
Our technicians proactively deal with the regular, automatic installation
of system updates and security patches for the operating system running on
your server. For managed servers, our technicians retain the exclusive
root access. You have access to your server via
WebDAV.

Our employees are always well informed by using the professional
monitoring software Hyperic HQ Enterprise Edition.

The professional and completely automated backup of your data is handled
by a network backup solution on a Knipp-run, redundant backup system.
A full backup of all files on the server is done once a week. Every other
day, a so-called differential backup is done, which takes into account the
changes since the last full backup. A so-called incremental backup is done
daily and contains the changes since the last full, differential or
incremental backup. The storage time of the backups is 14 days at most,
then the files are overwritten with newer data.
We incorporate your server into the Knipp alarm management (KAM). The
Knipp support staff monitors the reachability of your server
twenty-four-seven via
ICMP ping
using the professional monitoring software Hyperic HQ Enterprise Edition.
Furthermore, the reachability of selected main services is also monitored,
for example SSH,
FTP,
HTTP and the
MySQL port.
Upon an alarm notification, our support team intervenes autonomously,
promptly analyses the cause, rectifies the fault (as far as possible for
Knipp) and informs you after the job has been finished.
