Electrical Power Supply

For any data center, reliable provision of electricity is a crucial factor and has the highest priority for operation, alongside a high-performance climate control. The data center of Knipp has its own transformer station, which is connected to the public main supply of the DEW21. In case of failure, some UPSs and a standby power supply system with a diesel emergency generator provide electricity till the usual electrical power supply via public main supply is available again.
Electrical Power Supply
Own power input from the municipal utility, independent of third parties
Own transformer station with 800 kVA
Separated medium-voltage main distribution on 10,000 volt level
Separated low-voltage main distribution on 400 volt level
Alternating current with 230 volt
Grounding and potential equalization comply with telecommunication standards
Static, redundant uninterrupted power supplies by Liebert HIROSS via two UPSs blocs with a capacity of 120 kVA in n + n-redundancy (100 %) and with battery back-up for a/b-supply with autonomous time of approx. 15 minutes (extensible)
Standby power supply system with emergency power of 650 kVA
Diesel power stand-by unit with engine by MAN, particulate filter and generator by Marelli
Automatic emergency power with load transfer
Diesel reserve of 1,000 liter
Full-load operation possible for at least 9 hours
Power supply line in rack: Electric circuit A with 3 x 16 ampere on the input side, connection to UPSs (optional at additional charge: 3 x 32 ampere); Electric circuit B with 3 x 16 ampere on the input side, connection to standby power supply system (optional at additional charge: 3 x 32 ampere); Three-phase multiple socket for connection to UPSs and standby power supply system, each with 24 (15 at 32 ampere) low heat device sockets.
