Registrations
You can order domains easily by using the
comfortable webinterface
of the Domain Registration System of Knipp.
The only prerequisite is that you must be
a registered customer of
Knipp. Registering is
easy and can be done in just a few steps.
Another possiblity is to order domains
via e-mail application form
The e-mail registration has the advantage that it can be done automatically.
Many customers use robots on their web site that send e-mail application forms to us.
However, using these forms is suited for experts only, since they contain quite a
few technical terms, which are unfortunately necessary. We have prepared a page
with explanations which will help
you to complete the form.
Naming conventions
The basic principles of the naming conventions for .eu domains
do not differ from the rules as they are commonly used for
other top level domains. We have listed them for you below.
-
Domain names may only consist of the Latin letters »a« to »z«,
the digits »0« to »9«, and the hyphen.
As of December 10th, 2009, the special characters of all 23 offical
languages of the EU are also allowed. You can find a detailed
list of the allowed
special characters on a dedicated .eu IDN page.
-
Domain names must consist of at least two characters.
The maximum length is 63 characters.
-
Domain names may not start with a hyphen and may not end with a hyphen.
-
The third and fourth character may not contain a hyphen.
-
The domain names may not exclusively consist of one of the
alpha-2 country codes (e.g. »DE« for Germany).
-
You are not allowed to mix scripts, or character sets
(Latin, Greek and
Cyrillic), in a single internationalized domain name.
Moreover, each member state was authorized to hand in a list of terms used
for geographical or geopolitical concerns.
In the following, you find the resulting lists.
In addition, the folowing names are reserved for the use of the .eu registry:
eurid.eu, registry.eu, nic.eu, dns.eu, internic.eu, whois.eu, das.eu, coc.eu, eurethix.eu, eurethics.eu, euthics.eu.
