Mercedes-Benz has now been rewarded with a special sort of »accolade«.
This year, Knipp became the sole external hosting service provider
for the premium brand from Stuttgart.

Besides Mercedes-Benz, numerous other national and international brands
from the most diverse branches rely on Knipp's hosting expertise, e. g.
alltours, byebye, Leica Camera, McDonald's, Panasonic, Stern Stewart & Co.,
and Telnic, to name but a few. All of them have in common that in every case
Knipp developed and operates customized hosting solutions driven by the
customer's wishes and requirements.
Due to the continuous demand for its »individualization approach« that
Knipp has been receiving over the time, it became necessary to expand the
existing hosting capacities and to build an additional data center
at the company's headquarters in Dortmund.
Knipp has produced a new Internet presence for Gemeinnützige
Wohnstättengenossenschaft Hagen e. G. (GWG Hagen, a registered non-profit
cooperative housing society). It is the continuation of the cooperative
business relationship between these companies, which has lasted for over
ten years now.
An important requirement for the new website was based on the wide range
of expected visitors. In order to provide easy access to the online
offers, a mostly low-barrier website had to be developed. Therefore, the
user can adjust not only the font size but also the contrast on all pages
of the web presence, as well as change to the text-only version.

The central part of the new web presence is the search for flats to rent.
Apart from the filter options that are typical for real estate, there are
also search options tailored especially for the housing portfolio of
GWG Hagen. A special feature is the fuzzy search, which comes up with
suggestions even if there are no results matching the search exactly.
The portfolio is updated each working day using a Knipp-made connection to
a proprietary real estate management system. Knipp was not just
responsible for the software development, but also for the design and
concept of the web presence. The implementation is based on the reliable
open source content management system TYPO3, which has been used by Knipp
in numerous projects. Knipp's service portfolio for GWG Hagen is rounded
off by domain management and server hosting.

Even before the official start of the .eu TLD in 2005, EURid
announced that it planned to introduce internationalized domain names
»relatively quickly« after the Go-Live.
Now it finally becomes true. Starting from December 10th, 2009,
it will be possible to register domains like »bücher.eu« and »flüge.eu«.
282 new characters for .eu domains
The expansion of the character set for .eu is a considerably large one
compared to the IDN introductions of other TLDs. But no wonder, since
the goal is to allow the characters of all 23 official languages of
the European Union. All in all, the expansion comprises 282 additionally
allowed characters. You can find a complete list under the following link:
Knipp is offering a free preregistration system that you can use to
pre-order the new .eu domains. As soon as EURid opens up their systems
on December 10th, the DRS of Knipp will automatically send all
preregistrations to the registry, following the well-proven
»first-come-first-served«-principle.

you can find all the important information about the new .eu domain
names and the preregistration system of Knipp:
DENIC eG, the central registry for the top level domain .de,
has announced in a press release on October 15th that it will
amend its domain guidelines with effect from October 23rd, 2009.
DENIC will thus abolish most of the restrictions currently applicable
with regard to the registration of second level domains under the
top level domain .de.
In the future, registrations of one- and two-character domains will be
allowed as well as domain names composed exclusively of digits.
Additionally, people may register domains identical with combinations
of letters that are used for German license plates or for other
top level domains such as "com" or "org".
Knipp is setting up a preregistration queue for these attractive new
domain names that you can use free of charge. Only successful
registrations will be billed. The start of operation of our
preregistration system is on Monday, October 19th at 12:00 CEST.
You will be able to enter domain registration requests until Thursday,
October 22, 24:00 hours.

Please note that due to the high attractiveness of the new domain names
the prices are substantially higher than the usual registration fees.

Uhde Services GmbH located in Haltern am See is already the fourth
subsidiary company of Dortmund's well known plant constructor Uhde GmbH
for which Knipp has now realized an individual Website. The launch of
the Internet presence marks a further expansion of the long lasting and
trustful cooperation between Uhde and Knipp.
The bi-lingual Website was inspired by the realization based on the open
source Content Management System (CMS) TYPO3 that has already been
successfully applied for the other subsidiaries. And as for the other
Uhde companies, after the implementation Knipp is also responsible for
the domain and for the web hosting.

A highly anticipated project of the German travel industry is now online:
the byebye Website. Since April 20th 2009, byebye allows for the comfortable
research and booking of individual traveling services at daily updated
prices and in real-time.
The new travel Website takes on the Internet trend towards interactive design
and adoption of individual preferences of the user. byebye services
include the online booking of complete but customized »package holidays«
with flight, hotel and optional transfer or rental car
as well as flight-only, hotel-only and flight + rental car offerings.
While focusing on package deals for traditional bathing resorts and
short-, medium- and long-distance city breaks at the beginning, the product
portfolio will permanently be extended.
Successful launch of byebye thanks to Knipp
Thanks to the longtime and successful operation of high-availability systems
for travel agency alltours flugreisen GmbH, Knipp is well-positioned for the
hosting of the byebye Services. Knipp has designed a tailor-made highly
available hosting solution for the special requirements of byebye based on
well-proven multi-redundant components for loadbalancing, firewalls, switches,
web- and database servers, and operates it in Knipp's own data center.
In addition to that, Knipp was also able to win the pitch for the frontend
and backend programming. For the realization based on the popular OpenSource
Content Management System (CMS) TYPO3, Knipp has utilized established
standards like XHTML but also made use of modern technologies like Flash
and intensively of AJAX. The heart of the byebye page, the booking engine,
is nearly purely based on AJAX. The instant processing of database queries
when modifying search criteria and similar highly interactive elements
allow for an innovative handling of the page. That increases the surfing
pleasure of the user and contributes to increasing the conversion rate.
Today at 15:00 UTC, the second introductory phase of the new .tel domain
starts. The »Landrush« phase represents the first possibility for
everybody to register .tel domains without any prerequisites like
rights to a name. Only very few reserved terms can not be registered,
and, of course, the domain names that have already been assigned during
the Sunrise phase.
From now on, you have the possibility to carry out Landrush registrations
with the help of the e-mail templates that are available on the Knipp

The registration of .tel domains during the Landrush phase is very
attractive because many interesting and valuable domain names are still
available now. The costs for registering at this early point of time
are higher than during the live operation starting on March 24th, 2009,
however. On the other hand, Landrush registrations come with a minimum term
of three full years. And in contrast to other new top level domains like
the recently introduced .asia and .mobi domains, there are no longsome and
cumbersome auctions during Landrush, for which one can never know the
final costs.
Starting on February 23rd 2009, it will additionally be possible
to enter preregistrations for the low-prized registrations during the
live operation (»General Availability«) of .tel into a queue of Knipp's DRS.

service agency for interactive media from Wiesbaden, and Knipp, continue their
cooperation in the fields of server housing and domain management started in 2004.
Next to the continuing expansion of the housing for automotive engineering
company Mercedes-Benz and camera producer Leica Camera, Knipp also
assumes the housing of a Webspecial for McDonald's, and the Internet
presence of TÖCHTER und SÖHNE.
I'm lovin' it...
For the housing of the Webspecial, where the user can learn about the
quality of McDonald's-products, another highly available and high performing
cluster solution managed and monitored by Knipp is being used.
The Web- and Database servers as well as the Switches and Firewalls are based
on well-proven technologies and components by Hewlett Packard and Juniper.
While McDonald's demanded for a high-end solution, the bar for the
housing of the Internet presence of TÖCHTER und SÖHNE, an agency for
boarding schools and advisors, was lower.
In this case, a reliable yet attractively priced solution was required.
With redundant components within the server and custom tailored contract
periods, Knipp was able to accomplish this task in the customers' interest.
The Landrush phase of the new .asia domain has finished with
a surprising success last week.
After only about 30,000 domain names had been applied for in the
preceding Sunrise phases, the number of registration applications
within three-week's Landrush phase was an astonishing 473,633.
The introductory phase of the .asia top level domain is now completed.
At the moment, the registry is in a so-called »Quiet Period« during which
no registration applications are being accepted. »Go-Live«, the official
start of .asia, is scheduled for March 26th 2008, 12:00 noon UTC (13:00 CET).
.asia officially starts on March 26th, 2008
The begin of the live operation is the first time that DotAsia uses the
otherwise generally applied »first-come-first-served« principle. So far,
domains that received more than one registration have been auctioned
among the interested parties.
Overall, one can speak of a successful introduction of .asia that has
developed in a very positive way after a rather cautious start. However,
time will have to tell whether the new TLD can continue to live up to
the high expectations.
Following the big success of .eu we are now expecting the next promising
candidate for a top ranking in the hit list of top level domains (TLDs):
».asia.« And at least on paper it looks as if .asia could become a true domain
heavy weight. After all the internet government ICANN chose the designated area
of the new domain ending generously: the »Pacific Asia« does not only comprise
the Asian countries themselves, but also many neighboring countries.
Using only one .asia domain name it will be possible, theoretically, to reach
about 60 per cent of the world's population. But in practice, too, the
potential is enormous, since counting the number of internet users, Asia
(400 million) is well ahead of Europe (315 million) and North America
(253 million; source: InternetWorldStats.com). Consequently, also non-Asian
companies will get interested in the new domain names. Particularly so since
the huge economic boom in Asia gains in importance as an economic factor even
for local companies.
The Asia domain flourishes
Fortunately, the restrictions on access are deliberately kept lax. Even though
the theme of this new TLD reads »from Asia for Asia,« no prospective customer
should be excluded. While, for instance, it is compulsory for any customer
owning a .eu domain name to actually live in Europe, this is not the case for
.asia. Here, merely any arbitrary contact connected with the domain needs to
come from »Pacific Asia.« Thus trust contacts can be declared (as, for example,
Knipp is offering) in such a way that in practice .asia domains can be
registered without restriction.
Currently we are in a pre-registration phase, in which companies and holders of
registered marks have the option to register domain names corresponding to
their protected labels. This so-called »Sunrise Period« is devided into several
stages und will last till January 15th, 2008. Starting February 8th, 2008, it
will get exciting for ordinary registrants, since then the »Landrush« phase
starts, in which everybody can apply for a .asia domain name.

KETTLER's sports product portfolio contains fitness equipment like
exercise bikes, ergometers and treadmills, among others, with fields of
application ranging from home training and the professional usage in clubs
and gyms up to medical applications in physiotherapy and rehab.
Knipp has realized this project with the widespread and well-proven
Open Source Content Management System (CMS) TYPO3. Being based on
MySQL databases, Typo3 is predestined to be applied at KETTLER,
since the employees can self-maintain the contents to a great extend
and because it is possible to directly include product data into the
web pages.
As a special feature, the newly extended online presence of KETTLER
now offers an interactive purchase advisory service. The consulting tool
programmed by Knipp is based on sports-medical findings and creates
a list of fitness equipment that is especially suited for the personal
needs of the user, based on his individual specifications for
training goals, fitness level and other preferences.
The user can inform himself on product detail pages for all the
listed equipment and can also compare the devices with different
models.
To the newly relaunched Web presence of KETTLER Sports:
The housing of the Webspecial for the new C-Class of Mercedes Benz is a
further milestone in the trusting co-operation between Knipp and Multimedia
agency SCHOLZ & VOLKMER Intermediales Design GmbH from Wiesbaden, existing
since the end of 2004.
SCHOLZ & VOLKMER has designed and programmed a multiplicity of sophisticated
Internet presentations for Mercedes Benz. The co-operation with Knipp commenced
with the housing for the B-Class when it was newly introduced, and since this
successful start it has continuously been developed and intensified.
By now, the collaboration also covers the housing of the E-, M-, R-, S- and
SLR-Class, the download portals for music (»Mixed Tape«) and for audio books
(»Text Tracks«) as well as the E-Class Webspecial »Paris-Peking«.
The decision to also host Mercedes' best-selling model range in Knipp's Data
Center underlines the confidence customers have in the expertise and

dedicated Web-, Database and CMS-servers, of Firewalls with throughputs
of 1 GBit/s, and Loadbalancers that can handle thousands of SSL transactions

On today's Monday the »Limited Industry Sunrise«
starts. It's called »limited« because about 2000 companies
belonging to organizations of the telecommunications industry
are privileged for registrations.

After having launched the new website of parent company Uhde GmbH in
March 2006, Knipp has now also completed the relaunch of Uhde High
Pressure Technologies GmbH, a Hagen-based plant building specialist
focused on high-pressure techniques.
In this project, Knipp worked together with an advertising agency
assigned by Uhde. While it was the advertising agency's liability to
realize a CI-compliant design according to ThyssenKrupp's group-wide
guidelines, Knipp was responsible for the technical conception and the
implementation. Knipp's solution is based on the open source Content
Management System (CMS) TYPO3, which is well proven and tested in
several other customer projects. In close collaboration with the
advertising agency, the new website was completed and went online
punctually to the start of the industrial fair ACHEMA 2006.
This project demonstrates that Knipp is a reliable partner in finalizing
time-crtical internet projects on schedule, even in co-operation with
further service providers.
The website of plant constructor Uhde GmbH, a company of the
ThyssenKrupp group, presents itself in a new design.
One of the central challenges during the conception and the
implementation of this project consisted in accomodating the
group-wide guidelines of a CI-compliant design for all
subsidiary companies while presenting the outstandingly wide
spectrum of technological expertise of Uhde in a well
structured and concise way at the same time.
Uhde has been a customer of Knipp since the year 2000. In addition to the
development and support of the website, Knipp also administers the
hosting in its own data center in Dortmund and the management of all of
Uhde's domains, at home and abroad.
The second phase of the Sunrise Period for Europe's new top
level domain has started succesfully.
The starting shot for the second wave of domain applications
was fired on February 7th, 2006, at 11 o'clock punctually.
The reason for this wave not being quite as big as the one
at the beginning of the first part of the introduction phase
is probably that the rules have now become even more complicated
than before.
While EURid counted around 100,000 domain applications at the start of
phase 1 on December 7th, 2005, there were only about 70,000 of them at the
beginning of part 2. All that despite of the fact that the circle of
potential registrants has substantially grown in this phase:
According to Article 10, Section 1 of the public policy rules
(EC regulation No 874/2004), everybody is eligible to register domain names
for which he or she can prove the existence of a right to that name in his
home country.
Unfortunately, for rights to a name that can not be verified by means
of an offical register, some sort of legal document is necessary.
This makes the registration process rather complex and might discourage many
prospective registrants. But to try and secure the desired domain names
before the start of the live operation is worth the while, since it is not for
nothing that this phase is called »Landrush«. In the run on .eu domains that
is then going to begin, the registration might become a game of pure chance.

until the second quarter of 2006.
